Being involved in projects that are changing the face of travel is just one of the reasons our new Senior Corporate Counsel for airports is excited to be part of the team.
Alix James, an experienced real estate and commercial transactional attorney, joined URW in June. Her first foray into airports was helping to execute the contract with American Airlines for URW to lead the $125 million commercial redevelopment program at Terminal 8 of John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
Alix credits her background in politics and real estate, including her internship at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, for preparing her for her career at URW. She understands the importance of working productively with a diverse group of stakeholders, the intricacies of working with government agencies, and the impact an airport can have on everyone from passengers to employees.
Before coming to URW, she worked at a law firm where she specialized in real estate and corporate political activity and later went to work for a client, where she oversaw all legal, compliance, government affairs, and community engagement work for a real estate investment trust of 600+ properties in the NYC metropolitan area as its General Counsel.
Alix enjoys working as in-house counsel for one client, as it allows her to see a project through all the hurdles, wins, and losses from beginning to end. She is focused on building best practices and providing her legal expertise to issues across the airports portfolio.
“URW is a good business partner and best in class for its collaboration with its partners,” Alix said. “We have a unique opportunity to scale, reimagine, and come together for a common vision that is changing the future of travel. It is a tremendous time to be a part of this team that is improving and innovating the experience in airports.”
Her team oversees all URW legal affairs at our flagship airport and transit assets including: JFK Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, Chicago O’Hare International Airport, and Westfield World Trade Center. She is also an integral part of the team bringing a brand new commercial program to New Terminal One at JFK. URW is the exclusive commercial developer and manager for the $9.5 billion, 2.4 million square foot state-of-the-art, new international terminal.
A Colorado native, Alix earned her law degree from Rutgers University. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University.
